"The Fields" Final Park Design Unveiling02/28/2010After a two year hiatus, The Fields has moved from a conceptual plan that reflects a program of park needs to a schematic plan that takes the needs and organizes them with greater detail and consideration of how areas relate to one another. Based on extensive public comment and participation, the park program will include unstructured open space, sitting areas and strolling paths, entry plazas, a water element, a children’s area, a dog area, trees and landscaped areas, and a boardwalk. A future bridge will connect the park to the river through Centennial Mills. These program elements were developed by the Advisory Committee and design team to reflect the priorities articulated by the public. Those priorities included maximizing the open green space; creating a connection to Jamison Square and Tanner Springs Parks; and the need to balance the many varied uses and priorities that come from a diverse and dense urban neighborhood. We invite you to view the final schematic design at Umpqua Bank, 1139 NW Lovejoy. The display will be up March 1-6. Staff and Advisory Committee members will be available to discuss the project with you at the following times: Monday, March 1, 9:00 – 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 3, Noon – 2:00 PM Friday, March 5, 4:00 – 6:00 PM Saturday, March 6, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM Comment forms will be available for you to fill out throughout the week, or you can comment online at Portland Parks PROJECT SCHEDULE: January – February 2010: Schematic Design, March – May 2010: Design Development, June – October 2010: Construction Documents, November 2010 – February 2011: Permits, Bid & Award, March – October 2011: Construction, June 2012: Park Dedication
